Help for Disability Benefits

While you can always obtain and fill up the form for disability by yourself, sometimes it helps to seek outside help to aid you in the process and inform you about the various ways in which you can increase your chances of approval. Here we look at people you can contact for the same.

Disability benefits are usually offered to those who are unable to work due to a chronic health problem or severe injury which is expected to remain unhealed for a period of twelve months or more. However, to obtain the benefits, you will have to fill up the necessary forms to be sent to the Social Security Administration for approval. Those of us, who are too stressed or confused about how to go about it, should ideally consult somebody in the know.

A visit to the social security officer is a good way to gather all the information you need to apply for disability benefits. The representative will guide you as to how to fill up the form properly and also provide you with relevant pamphlets to further make you understand what’s expected. However, when you do go to a social security office, be prepared for long queues and delays. Also, the individuals who may help you fill up the forms are not necessarily going to be the ones who will decide whether your claim is justified or not.

"You can also get in touch with the social security call center and put in your application over the phone. People who are hard of hearing can try the TTY line which is specifically been provided for people with hearing disabilities."

Representatives are available from 7am to 7pm throughout the weekdays. You can also quiz the representatives about any details that you need clarified. They will be able to explain most of the basic queries that you may have. Ideally call them over the landline since if your cell phone signal drops mid conversation, you will have to go through the entire waiting period again.

Last but not the least, consult a disability benefits lawyer who can help you with the same. Whether it’s your first time applying for the benefits or whether you have been denied before, a lawyer will be able to help you get through the process more easily and also increase your chances of getting your claim approved.
